Mauritius has completed its first Proliferation Financing (PF) National Risk Assessment, with the overall national risk rated Medium.
The assessment identified no PF cases or active PF groups in Mauritius. The findings nevertheless highlight potential exposure through:
🚢 Ship-to-ship transfers and trade with high-risk jurisdictions.
⚙️ Procurement of dual-use items — goods or technology that can serve both civilian and military purposes.
🔎 UN Security Council-designated persons and entities, and the movement of persons from countries of proliferation concern.
💻 Potential misuse of virtual assets.
These are potential threats, rather than evidence of PF activity in Mauritius. They provide a basis for reporting persons to examine where their own businesses could be exposed.
📌 The national Medium rating does not automatically determine your organisation’s risk level. Your exposure depends on your clients, their activities, the jurisdictions involved and the services you provide. A useful review goes beyond checking names against sanctions lists. It also considers ownership and control, the purpose of transactions, and whether the activity makes sense for the client’s business.
