FSC LAUNCHES MAURITIUS’S REGISTER OF TRUSTS

The Financial Services Commission announced the launch of the Register of Trusts on 30 September 2026, strengthening Mauritius’s framework for transparency and beneficial ownership of trusts.

Management Companies and other Qualified Trustees providing trusteeship services are required to submit up-to-date basic and beneficial-ownership information through the Register.

-Initial submission: Existing trusts under administration must be populated into the Register by 15 January 2027, with accurate, complete and consistent information.
-Ongoing updates: Changes to beneficial-ownership information must be updated forthwith and no later than five working days after the information is obtained or the change occurs.
-Accurate reporting depends on the controls behind it.

An amendment to a trust deed, a change of protector or updated beneficiary information should flow through to the relevant records and systems. Without a clear process, discrepancies can carry forward into the Register.

Management Companies and trustees should therefore consider:
✅ Are trust documents, beneficial-ownership assessments and KYC records consistent and current?
✅ Are discrepancies identified and resolved before submission?
✅ Are responsibilities clearly assigned for identifying, verifying and reporting subsequent changes?

At Acrion, we help you translate these requirements into practical controls. We can assess and test the effectiveness of your existing processes, identify gaps and advise on implementing the necessary changes. Our support includes enhancing verification checks, update procedures and reporting responsibilities, tailored to how your organisation operates.
